Hi All,

I have had a Zune 80gb for a couple of years now no issues until it recently strarted freezing up.  This may be related to a new version of the Zune software I downloaded and I recently went to Windows 7 Ultimate also.  Can't say for sure.  Anyway after doing a full power off with the back key it was fine again for a while but went again on the 31st and the power off didn't work.  I then decided to reset the Zune and it has now been stuck on screen 3 for a few days.  It won't power on unless I plug it into the PC to get a charge and the pc does not recognise it as a device anymore.  So it's effectively not working at all.  None of the key combinations to reset\reboot work and I can do nothing from the PC as it doesn't think the Zune is attached.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated?  I am prepared to take it apart if someone can advise how best to do that?

Thanks Everyone.
Ian.

you have probably done all this but look here http://news.zunethings.co.uk/2008/08/zune-hard-reset.html

It may help to perform the reset whilst connected to the pc in order for the rebuild to occur seamlessly.

Good luck

Hi UKMailman,

Thanks for the response.  I don't think I have tried that yet so I will do it this Friday when I get back home and let you know.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

No no joy reseting the device whilst attached to the pc.  It is completely frozen on screen 3 and just says please wait in 3 languages......

If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated.  If I find a fix I'll post it.

Cheers

Hi All,

Just to keep you posted.  I took the Zune apart and removed the batteries cables.  Not an easy task as they are all soldered on.  It then moved on to step 5 contact support.  There is no fix that I can find anywhere on the interent to get out of step 5 without sending it back.  I have no warranty on it and no support in the UK I am aware of.  I was however happy with my progress as screen 3 was annoying me.  I put it all back together and it wouldn't turn on at all.  I took it back apart and had severered all the battery cables trying to put the case back on.  I made a weak attempt at fixing them and then gave up and threw the Zune in the bin..

Probably best not to take them apart!

Anyway I will now buy a new player of some sorts.  Atleast I can move on now.

I do still like the Zune but this has put me off getting another.  I don't like the Ipod.  Any ideas?

I hope this story makes someone laugh!

Cheers

Ian

That story did make me laugh, but only cos of the fact that finally now I know someone else was feeling my pain!! The same thing happened to me, except I'm stuck on screen 2 - its doin my keg in!! I've tried absolutely everything to try sort it and its also goin in the bin.

Does anyne know when the Zune HD 64 will be available in the UK? I'm a bit put off by my 80gb freezing but I dont want to go near apple either - the alternatives are pretty lacking.

Anyone any suggestions?

Cheers
